La Confiserie

A project for 138 affordable condos in the Maisonneuve neighbourhood

The La Confiserie consists of three buildings, totaling 138 condos, of which nearly 25% have three-bedrooms and nearly 65% have two-bedrooms, meets the needs of families living in the area. Completed in 2009, it is located at the intersection of de Rouen Street and Desjardins Avenue in Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough, near Pie-IX métro station and the Olympic Stadium.

Location

A condo project that successfully integrates a heritage building

La Confiserie, like the accredited Accès Condos project La Biscuiterie, is another fine example of architectural rehabilitation. The project integrated the former Hershey liquorice factory, an industrial and heritage building that has marked the history of this neighbourhood. In addition to the completely repurposed building, two new buildings were built in perfect harmony with the existing one. Industrial-loft style units in the rehabilitated building have a unique style with very large windows that flood the interiors with natural light. In some units, the wood beams of the original structure have been preserved as well as some columns of wood or steel. For their part, the new buildings have four storeys. Of the 78 units that they comprise, 17 are laid out on two floors and have a mezzanine and a private roof terrace.

Social mix and accessibility at the heart of the revitalization of the building

Beyond offering affordable accredited Accès Condos units, this project features a real social and economic diversity as it includes 23 social housing units managed by the Office municipal d’habitation de Montréal.
